Pygmy Mission

Reaching the Pygmies Ministry: This ministry began when the Rev. Charles Busingye, a pastor in the Church of Uganda, was moved to care for a group of destitute Batwa Pygmies in southwest Uganda. They had been evicted from their rainforest home by the government in 1992, in order to protect the Mountain Gorilla. The Batwa were sick, hungry, and socially ostracized. As hunter-gatherer people, they were unfit to survive in the world outside the rainforest.

Since that time, the Batwa have been settled on their own land, learned to farm, joined Epiphany School for primary education, and became connected to the local people.

We support Reaching the Pygmies Ministry through donations from our committee and through our Alternative Gift Market. Some members of our church also support students at Epiphany School.
