Advent and Christmas at the Church on the Hill
Christmas is near. At the First Presbyterian Church, we have a varied program of Advent and Christmas worship and outreach opportunities for members and our community.
Advent Bags - Our Advent bags are available for pickup at the church help our households prepare for the coming of the Messiah.
Worship
Please join us for worship and our other Advent and Christmas activities:
- November 30 - First Sunday of Advent - Romans 13:11-14 - “Waking and Walking”. Also, our Give a Gift to a Stranger begins.You'll find meaningful ways to support people in need as you give a gift to family and friends
- December 7 - Second Sunday of Advent - Romans 15:4-13 - “Hoping and Watching”. Also, LIFT: Living in Faith Together Where families of all sizes and ages to break bread together as we hear God’s word and engage with one another in discussion and activities.
- December 14 - Third Sunday of Advent - Romans 11:33-36 - “Rejoicing and Abounding"
- Special Class - December 14 & 21.
“That’s What Christmas is All About, Charlie Brown!” Rev. Carter will lead a lively conversation about the well-known holiday special. We will explore the background of the show, as well as its timeless themes. Immediately after worship. 
December 15 - We offer a Blue Christmas service at 7:00 p.m. for all who are weary, sad, or grieving. The service will take place in the church sanctuary and will be live-streamed.- December 21 - Fourth Sunday of Advent - Romans 1:1-7 - “Promising and Receiving"
- December 24- Christmas Eve -
- 4:00 pm - A service for families.
- 8:00 pm - Lessons and carols
- 11:00 pm - The Jazz communion
- December 28 - First Sunday of Christmas - Matthew 2:13-23 - “Promising and Receiving”

- December 3 - at 6:00 pm (room 206) - We begin a series about Theology of the Arts.
- End-of-the-Year-Appeal - The pipe organ has been called the king instruments. Our 1922 Massey pipe organ is showing its age, with deteriorating pipes and valves and other parts. In particular, the "flutes" - a group of pipes that emulate the delicate sound of a flute - are almost all silent.
You may have noticed that the pew Bibles we use every week are also in need of repair or replacement. We need to purchase 72 NSRV Bibles to match those in our pews. This will cost approximately $750 to $1,000, including shipping. - Immerse Bible Group - Want to read the Bible with others in a supportive, non-threatening small group? Every Monday at 1:30 pm this group will meet at members' homes. -Learn more- Contact the office at 570-586-6306 for locations.

- The FPCCS Endowment Fund - Your session has created the FPCCS Endowment Fund to ensure a long-term source of funds to sustain us well into the twenty-first century . -more-
- Upper Room Devotional Booklets - The current issue is available at the church. If you or someone you know routinely takes one home, please leave a message on the church voicemail (570-586-6306) or send a message to office@fpccs.org and we will mail it out.
- St. Francis Clothing Center is now accepting clothing. Please donate warm winter clothing, including coats. Donations may be placed in Fellowship Hall.
- The 120-year old Presbyterian Mission Yearbook for Prayer & Study has become an online-only free digital resource. This move broadens the reach of the book’s audience by sharing its inspiring content in a timelier manner and also demonstrates good stewardship of church resources.
The Mission Yearbook dates back to 1892 as a simple calendar of prayer to help women’s societies pray for missionaries on designated days. It has the longest history of any denominational mission and prayer book in the United States. - Going on vacation? Did you know that you can set up your on-line giving so your pledge goes to the church even if you can't. Click on the big green pledge button and and set up your periodic giving. You can also direct a gift to any program. Missions, music, youth programs, OGHS and the Deacon's Fund are just a few of the many programs that can use your gifts.
